Some home baked tunes… most of these tunes were recorded “live in studio”- first takes only … with mistakes and all

Life’s Not Over Yet, Dammit!
Files Size:4586K
Notes: The results of a midlife crisis therapy session ![]()
As usual, the drums are programmed using the excellent Jamstix plugin. In this project I’m using a the picollo snare that came with one of Jamstix’s expansion packs. I love the dry, metalic sound you get from these things. I think I’ve finally found a way to tune in a decent bass sound as well .
Ode to Sammy
Files Size: 2846K
Notes: More info can be found here.
Samurai Jam
Files Size: 10 690K
Notes: I started to mess with some japanese sounding instruments on one of my synths the other day … it kinda took off
The intro consists of a free jam with a Koto, a Shamisen and – I think – a Shakuhachi (a flute). The whole ordeal gave me some major sushi cravings. After the intro, things are taking off in a more Indian direction. I’m using the Sitar setting on my Variax guitar in the first part of the song. The drums is just a cool Indian sounding percussion loop that was fun to jam over. The bass is my good ‘ol 5 string Squier JazzBass. Oh, and we’re sticking to the “E” here, because of my rather tragic keyboard skills (can’t handle many chord changes)
Birch Blues
Files Size: 3530K
Notes: A short standard blues/boogie jam. The drum track was created with the excellent plugin Jamstix.
Rotary Boogie
Files Size: 3847K
Notes: Another blues/boogie jam. The drum track was again created with Jamstix. The bass track was run through (among others) the free bass amp simulator plugin Helian 2.
Two Guitars
Files Size: 11 534K
Notes: A recording of a two guitars free jammin’… no plan or direction … just a late night jam… Tracked 10.30.2005
A Rush Tribute
Files Size: 3271K
Notes: I felt like being a guitar hero yesterday night – and of course I had to track the blowout. I still don’t understand how Diane could sleep through this event… my “studio” isn’t sound proof and I was playing fairly loud
I think I scared the dog with my Alex Lifeson impersonation. Check out those drum fills – Jamstix rox!

I heard your Birch Blues on the Jamstix website, I absolutely love the guitar tone on the lead, if it is not too much to ask would you care to tell me how you achieved that sound?
Before I leave that is some excellent playing I listened to a few more very nice indeed
Kind regards

Hi Mike – thanks for the feedback !
To be honest with you, I don’t remember … I’m terrible when it comes to documenting takes … and I can’t locate the original Sonar project
I know I recorded the guitars using a Pod Xt or a Pod XT Live … most likely using the Fender Bassman amp model … the lead may have had a tubescreamer in front of the amp … The two guitar tracks were recorded using a Line 6 Variax – both probably set to emulate the “ES-335″
sorry – that’s the best I can come up with … if I find the original project, I may be able to dig up some more accurate parameters …
