and then it froze over

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

see – I don’t mind snow.  All I’m asking for is a little consistency.  The last 24 hours we’ve had:

  1. Normal snow
  2. Icy rain / pellets
  3. Slush

And then this #&*@ mess freezes over. AAARGH.

When I returned home from work today, there was this 3 feet wall of ice/salt/slush mix blocking our rather steep driveway.   I was able to coax the truck over the mountain of ice and snow with a little help from 4WD, a handy electronic diff. lock and some colorful Norwegian language (sounded something like this:  “…inni hælvettes forbanja faans snøskit…” – and no, I’m not translating).

I’m taking a personal day tomorrow to clean this mess up.  *sigh*

messy commute and closings

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

We had this winter’s first snow storm last night, and the secondary roads were messy to say at least.  Heck, even I-83 was a sea of ice and slush this morning. There weren’t too many cars on the roads though, so I could consentrate on the road rather than dodging crazies sliding randomly around on the ice.

And as usual, all schools and most government offices in the area were closed today.  My wife, the civil servant, was all giddy this morning, doing her snowday dance.  *sigh* stateworkers!
