Boondocks

Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

Ok, so I have been living under a rock for the last years. I admit it – I’m slow – but I’m catching up! I just discovered Aaron McGruder’s brilliant comic strip “The Boondocks”.

And today, our great pres’dint will again address the nation and tell us how well things are going in Iraq. And as usual, the address will be held from a military base *shrug*

I dunno … should we believe in his new “victory strategy” ? I find it a bit hard, especially given the “Mission Accomplished” speech he held from an aircraft carrier in 2003.

Oh whatever…

Dostoevsky, Half Life 2 and Post Election Traumas.

I’ve been in a kind of post-election limbo the last few days. I also believe that I have experienced my first “cultural shock”. I’m tired of yelling at the TV, checking body count sites, reading 200 different news papers, blogs, editorials, and analysis. It takes too much time and it wears me out. So, I’ve decided to take a break. With Condi taking over the Department of State and Goss cleaning house in CIA, I’m sure we all can feel safe. Hell, things are going well in Iraq too. By spring next year, we’ll see a new Iraq with happy ex-insurgents dancing in the streets of Baghdad and Fallujah.

The pundits were mocking the late Abu Amar (Yasser Arafat) and the UN on primetime TV yesterday. On another channel they debated if Marines shooting wounded Iraqis in the head should raise moral and ethical concerns. I changed the channel before they came to a conclusion. I really don’t give a damn anymore.

They are running this TV ad these day: “Great Discounts on Medical Supplies just for a buck a day”, clearly targeting poor families that cannot afford a real health insurance. They actually state that in the ad: “Because this is NOT a regular health insurance, you cannot be turned down”. Lovely.

So, I’ve decided follow Joey’s advise: turn away from this surreal world, turn inward and try figuring out yourself. Someone told me that Dostoevsky’s Bratya Karamazovy (The Brothers Karamazov) was a good place to start, so that’s what I’m reading now. Good ‘ol Fyodor Mikhaylovich can be a little eh, depressing at times, so I decided to balance this quest of self-realization with some good and genuine happy-violence. Half Life 2! :hihi:

Chesapeake Bay

Monday, July 12th, 2004

I haven’t seen, heard (or smelled) the ocean in a while, so Diane and I decided to take the back roads down to Chesapeake Bay this Saturday. The weather was beautiful, sunny and not to muggy. A perfect convertible day. On the way down, we avoided all the major highways, so it was felt like we had the roads for our self.

I’m still amazed by how lush and green the Pennsylvanian countryside is. The corn stands high. The trees in the orchards seems heavy with apples, pears, peaches, grapes and cherries. And it’s still only Mid-July.

And according to an older PA Tour Guide: Yes, Pennsylvanian cows enjoy the fact that people “mooooo” out of the windows of their cars. Hopefully the cowies like Dave Matthews Band too (“music du jour” this Saturday), as we tend to turn the car stereo up… and sing along..

And show the world to me
